SCORE ANNOUNCES ST. PAUL SEMINAR DATES

Low-Cost Education Opportunity for Small Business Owners

ST. PAUL, MN, August 22, 2011—The St. Paul chapter of SCORE has announced the dates for its fall series of small business seminars. The seminars cover planning and starting a new business, marketing, finance and accounting, and web sites and social media. The first seminar is scheduled for Thursday, September 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All seminars will be held at the Wilder Center, 451 Lexington Parkway North (at University Avenue) in St. Paul.

The seminars will be presented in two series throughout the fall. The first seminar, “Going Into Business,” is an overview of the process of starting a new business. It will be presented on September 8 and repeated in the second series of seminars on November 3. That will be followed by half-day (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) seminars on “Developing Your Business Plan” (September 15 and repeated on November 10), “Marketing Your Business” (September 21 and November 17), “Websites & Social Media” (September 29 and December 1), “Financing Your Business” (October 6 and December 8), and “QuickBooks® Basics” (October 13 and December 15).

Seminar instructors include active and retired business owners and executives, as well as professionals who advise small businesses. Attendees can choose to take individual seminars or the entire series. The seminars need not be taken in order. Tuition for each half-day seminar is $59 and for the full-day seminar $79. However, persons who register for all six seminars will pay only $274 for the series, a $100 discount from the total cost of individual seminars. Attendees can register online at http://stpaul.score.org/events, or at the door (cash or check only, no credit cards).

“We think the SCORE small business seminars are the best deal around,” said Peter Nord, the chair of the St. Paul chapter of SCORE. “The more an entrepreneur knows about running a business, the greater the likelihood that the business will succeed. These seminars can help the small business owner avoid pitfalls and take advantage of opportunities, all at a very modest cost.”

Since 1964 SCORE has helped more than 9 million aspiring entrepreneurs. Each year SCORE provides small business mentoring and workshops to more than 500,000 new and growing small businesses. More than 13,000 business experts volunteer as mentors in more than 350 chapters serving local communities.

St. Paul SCORE is part of the national nonprofit SCORE Association, dedicated to entrepreneurial education. At St. Paul SCORE, more than 80 volunteers, each with years of real-world business experience, provide free and confidential mentoring to start-ups and established businesses in the St. Paul metro area, western Wisconsin, and the Lake Superior Region.
