Meet the Mentors

February 15, 2012

Periodically, on this SCORE blog, we feature posts for you to meet SCORE volunteers who serve as Mentors for small business owners.  Meet the Mentors provides you with insights and inspirations from the men and women who help small business owners start and grow their businesses in the Minnesota area.  We hope that as you learn about their mentoring experiences, you will consider becoming a SCORE mentor.  Enjoy your visit with another SCORE mentor.

Doug Peterson SCORE MentorSCORE mentors come from a variety of professional backgrounds.  Doug Petersen has 46 years  of public, private  and Not for Profit business experiences under his belt.  His primary business was his consulting company, D.A. Petersen Associates, Inc. (DAPA).

His business mission was simple, To help people and organizations become as much as they can be with empowerment activities that maximize the ROI.”  With his business, Doug has provided consulting services in the areas of financial, marketing, and planning services to private and Not for Profit businesses.

Doug is no stranger to starting a business.  Over these past 35 years, Doug has started and grown six separate businesses.  A number of these businesses operated in the Not for Profit sector.

His experience in these areas makes Doug a valuable SCORE mentor for SCORE clients who are starting their own business.

For the last five years Doug has been a member of the St Paul Chapter of SCORE.  During that time he has mentored over 73 individuals in starting and/or growing their businesses in the private or Not for Profit sectors.

Doug also contributes his time and talents to the SCORE organization.  He is an instructor in marketing for the St Paul SCORE business seminar series.   He also chairs the St Paul SCORE Marketing Committee. His special skills in Not for Profit businesses, PR, fundraising, and social media are valuable to the SCORE organization as well as SCORE clients he mentors.

Doug says, “Throughout my work history I have always attempted to help people and organizations become as much as they can be. SCORE gives me an opportunity to contribute my skills and experiences with others.”

Doug is not all work and no play.   With one of his companies, Scotty’s Fire Salsa, he collaborates with his oldest son to make the best fresh salsa in the world!

We hope you will consider being a SCORE Mentor.  To start the process, just click on the appropriate SCORE Chapter link on the right column.  We look forward to having your share your skills and abilities.
